(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Emmanuel Christian University (ECU) has begun harvesting and processing coffee at its agricultural investment farm, marking a new milestone in the university’s effort to promote sustainable livelihoods and environmental management through education.
In a statement shared with Access Radio, the university said the coffee project is designed to create employment, build local enterprise and demonstrate the value of smart and sustainable farming in South Sudan.
According to the statement, ECU’s first coffee harvest symbolises more than agricultural success. It reflects the university’s broader mission to combine faith, education and practical training to empower communities:
“As the first coffee harvest begins to show promise, Emmanuel Christian University stands as a beacon of possibility,” the statement said.
“Through the humble coffee bean, ECU is nurturing not just a crop, but a culture of diligence, innovation and sustainable transformation — proof that education, when rooted in purpose, can yield a harvest that nourishes both the land and the soul.”
The university added that the project, known as Goli Coffee, represents more than a campus initiative. It serves as a model for resilience and self reliance in a country where agriculture remains the backbone of livelihoods:
“The story of Goli Coffee is a reminder that hope can be planted and, when cared for with love and knowledge, it can bloom into a harvest that feeds both the land and the spirit,” the statement continued.
Located about 18 miles along the Yei – Maridi road in Yei River County, Emmanuel Christian University is among the fastest growing private higher learning institutions in South Sudan.
The university says its agricultural projects are aimed at equipping students and nearby communities with the skills and knowledge to build sustainable and self supporting futures.
