(YEI COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County has visited the Yei Electricity Power Station and pledged full support for efforts to restore stable electricity supply in the area.
Hon. Emmanuel Taban Seme made the visit on Friday 27 February 2026 as part of ongoing work to bring back reliable power to communities in Yei River County, Central Equatoria State.
During the inspection, the Commissioner reviewed the condition of the facility and received briefings from technical staff and members of the state committee overseeing rehabilitation works. Officials outlined current progress and remaining challenges in restoring operations at the station.
The Commissioner said the return of reliable electricity is a priority for the county leadership. He noted that stable power is essential for business activity, health services, schools and the daily lives of residents. He said improved electricity supply would also support wider development efforts in South Sudan.
Hon. Emmanuel Taban Seme said he will continue to work closely with the State Government under Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony to ensure the power station becomes fully operational. He called for cooperation between county and state authorities to speed up restoration work.
To protect the facility and allow engineers to continue their work without disruption, the Commissioner directed that security personnel be deployed immediately at the power station. He said public infrastructure must be safeguarded to prevent further damage or interference.
The Office of the Commissioner said it remains committed to ensuring that residents of Yei River County regain access to stable electricity after years of interruption.
A statement from the County Press Unit said restoring power will help revive small businesses and improve living conditions in the county, reflecting broader efforts to rebuild essential services across South Sudan.
