(JUBA) – The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS), with support from Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA South Sudan) yesterday launched a three day Refresher Training Workshop on courtroom reporting for journalists in Juba.
The programme, held under the theme “Equipping Journalists with Skills to Report Effectively on Court Proceedings,” aims to strengthen the ability of journalists to cover legal matters accurately and professionally.
The workshop was officially opened by Hon. David Yau Yau, Deputy Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, who emphasised the importance of improving courtroom reporting as a key element of transparency and public trust in the justice system.
High level officials also attended the event, including Hon. Moyiga Nduru, Commissioner for Access to Information, Hon. Elijah Alier Kuai, Managing Director of the Media Authority, Maj. General Lul Ruai, Spokesperson of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces and Justice Abraham Majur Laat from the Judiciary.
The training will cover practical aspects of courtroom reporting, ethical standards and strategies for accurate and balanced news coverage of legal proceedings. It is expected to benefit journalists working in both state and private media outlets across the country.
AMDISS and NPA hope to contribute to more informed reporting on court cases and legal developments by equipping reporters with specialised skills, which can strengthen public understanding of South Sudan’s judicial system and support the broader goals of media development in the country.
