(JUBA) – The Central Equatoria State Security Committee met on 12 November 2025 to address growing concerns over illicit drug use and related violence across the state. The meeting focused on the health and safety of citizens, particularly in Juba, where youth gang activity linked to drugs has been rising.
The session was chaired by H.E. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, Governor of Central Equatoria State. The Director of Drugs Control presented a report detailing the current patterns of illicit drug use and the challenges facing enforcement agencies in tackling the problem.
Hon. Leon Abe Brown, Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies, said the committee expressed serious concern about the surge in drug use and gang violence. He noted that these issues have resulted in loss of life and disrupted communities.
Hon. Brown pointed out that interference from some stakeholders sometimes obstructs the justice process when suspects are arrested. He stressed the importance of ensuring that the special court handling drug-related cases functions effectively.
The committee urged all security units and community stakeholders to work together to protect residents and maintain order.
According to the state press unit CESGPU, Members reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to safeguarding lives, promoting public safety and building a drug free environment in Central Equatoria State.
