(MOROBO) – Two people have been killed and a vehicle set ablaze in a brutal roadside ambush in Morobo County, Central Equatoria State, near the border between South Sudan and Uganda.
The victims identified as an engineer and his driver were contracted by the Catholic organisation Don Bosco and were travelling to Koboko District in Uganda when the attack occurred on Thursday morning.
According to multiple eyewitness accounts, the incident took place approximately four miles along the Morobo-Kaya highway, between Morobo and Bazi. The perpetrators, believed to be unknown armed individuals, intercepted the vehicle and opened fire before burning it completely.

One of the travellers on the road, Alafi Godwill, described the grim scene.
“We saw a pick-up truck burnt down,” he said. “The SSPDF rescue team arrived and pulled a dead body from the burning vehicle.”
The second victim was reportedly found beside the road. Witnesses did not see any immediate signs of a robbery or confrontation prior to the attack.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the ambush. The motive remains unclear, and authorities have not identified any suspects.
The Morobo County Commissioner had not issued a public statement at the time of reporting.
More updates are expected as the situation develops.
