(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Authorities in Yei River County have launched an investigation into the killing of three people in Tokori Boma, Lasu Payam, following a deadly attack that occurred on Thursday, 9 July.
Speaking to journalists in Yei on Saturday, Yei River County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo said one of the victims, a local businessman, was found dead in the Kiriba area, approximately 16 miles along the Yei-Maridi road. According to the Commissioner, the businessman was travelling to a village to purchase a bull when he was attacked and killed.
Malimbo said two other individuals were later discovered shot dead within the same boma, bringing the total number of victims to three.
The Commissioner stated that the three people were allegedly killed by unknown armed men. He strongly condemned the killings, describing the incident as unacceptable and a setback to peace and security efforts in the area.
“This incident is bad for the people of Yei and we strongly condemn it because it is not acceptable,” Malimbo said. “We want the public to know that an investigation committee has been formed and has already started its work. The findings will be shared through the media so that people can understand what really happened in Kiriba and Tokori Boma.”
Malimbo further assured residents that the county authorities are committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the killings and bringing those responsible to justice.
The investigation committee is expected to present its findings upon completion of its inquiry. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators as efforts continue to establish the facts behind the incident.
The killings have raised concerns among residents, with local leaders calling for greater vigilance and strengthened security measures to protect communities in Yei River County.
