Bishop Leads Prayers After Fatal Ambush in Central Equatoria/Access Radio/Handout
(MOROBO COUNTY) – The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Yei, Alex Lo’diong Sakor Eyobo, has visited the site in Morobo County where an engineer working with the Salesians of Don Bosco was killed in an ambush on 31 July while travelling to Uganda.
The Bishop was accompanied by Fr. Andrew, the Parish Priest of Holy Family Parish in Lainya and the Vice Superior General of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) Missionaries. The group visited the scene of the attack to offer prayers and conduct a sacramental rite in memory of the deceased.
According to Church officials, the engineer was heading towards the border with Uganda when he was attacked and fatally shot by unknown armed individuals. His name has not been released to the public as investigations are ongoing and the Church waits for the family to be fully informed.
While at the site, Bishop Lo’diong performed a special Catholic rite at the very spot where the engineer was killed. The ceremony was conducted as a sign of respect and remembrance for the victim, and to pray for peace in the area.
The killing has sparked renewed concerns about the safety of civilians and humanitarian workers travelling between Yei River State and neighbouring Uganda. The road, although a key route for cross-border travel and aid movement, has been the scene of sporadic violence in recent months.

Church leaders have appealed for calm and urged government authorities and local communities to cooperate in identifying the perpetrators and ensuring the route remains safe for all travellers.
The Bishop also called for renewed efforts towards reconciliation and peacebuilding across Central Equatoria, where Morobo County is located.
The Salesians of Don Bosco, a Roman Catholic religious order known for its missionary and educational work in vulnerable communities, has not issued an official statement, but is said to be coordinating with Church leadership and local authorities on the next steps.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
