Yei Commissioner Pays Tribute to Late General Wai Wai

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County, Hon. Emmanuel Taban Seme, has expressed deep sorrow following the death of retired Police General and former Yei River County Commissioner, Elia Yoani Wai Wai, who passed away on 29 September 2025 at Gudele Hospital in Juba at the age of 88.

In an official condolence message dated 6 October 2025, Commissioner Taban described the late Wai Wai as a man of integrity whose life and service left a strong foundation for the people of Yei River County. He said General Wai Wai’s leadership helped strengthen local administration and promote peace during his tenure.

“With profound grief, I have learned of the untimely demise of Mr. Retired General and former Commissioner of Yei River County, Hon. Elia Yoani Wai Wai,” the commissioner wrote. “On behalf of the people and government of Yei River County, I extend my heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family on this sad news.”

Commissioner Taban praised the late general’s dedication to public service, describing him as a visionary leader who worked tirelessly to improve service delivery and unity in the county.

“Late Hon. Elia Yoani leaves behind a legacy of improved services and a stronger Yei River County as a testament to his strategic vision,” he said.

He also prayed for comfort for the family and residents of Yei during this period of mourning, urging them to remember the late general’s commitment to peace, faith, and public duty.

“I pray to God to offer strength to the family and all the people of Yei River County to bear this great loss,” he added. “May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest.”

The late General Elia Wai Wai, who previously served in the Sudanese Police Service before South Sudan’s independence, was known for his discipline and humility. After serving as Yei River County Commissioner, he left public office to become an ordained pastor in the Episcopal Church of South Sudan.

According to the Commissioner’s office, the late Wai Wai’s contributions will continue to inspire future generations of public servants and community leaders across Central Equatoria State.

Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by his family in partnership with the county authorities and the Episcopal Church of South Sudan.
