(JUBA) — The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), in partnership with the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries (MLF) and supported by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and development partners, has launched the South Sudan Agriculture Conference 2026 alongside the new MAFS website. The launch took place on 07 April 2026 at the Pyramid Continental Hotel in Juba.
Scheduled for 04–08 May 2026 under the theme “Investing in Agri-food Systems for a Better Life in South Sudan,” the conference aims to mobilize public and private investment, strengthen partnerships, and accelerate the transformation of the country’s agriculture sector. Despite abundant arable land, water resources, and diverse agro-ecological zones, South Sudan faces challenges including climate shocks, limited infrastructure, and weak market systems.
Deputy Minister Lily Albino Akol highlighted the need for practical solutions to improve food security and livelihoods through increased investment, technology access, and strengthened extension services. The new MAFS website will serve as a hub for conference information, investment opportunities, and policy updates.
World Bank Country Manager Charles Undeland emphasized private sector engagement as crucial to addressing the food insecurity affecting over 10 million South Sudanese.
The conference will feature policy dialogues, technical discussions, and investment forums, focusing on youth and women empowerment, climate-smart agriculture, and inclusive growth. Key outcomes are expected to include a national communiqué, investment frameworks, and strategies to guide the sector’s transformation.
