(YEI RIVER COUNTY) — A police vehicle was involved in a serious road accident along the Yei–Maridi Road, approximately one mile from Yei town, attracting large crowds of residents to the scene on Thursday afternoon. The number One Citizen News Paper reported.
According to preliminary reports, the police vehicle collided with a motorcyclist before both veered off the road and plunged into a nearby water channel. The driver of the police vehicle and the motorcyclist narrowly survived the crash and were later transported to a local health facility for medical evaluation.
An eyewitness, Atinga Moses, alleged that the police vehicle forced the motorcyclist off the road, leading to the accident. “The vehicle pushed the motorcyclist into the water channel, and both ended up there before they were taken to the hospital,” he said.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause of the crash.
Earlier, the Head of Traffic Police in the area, Ruben Manyok, had urged motorists to exercise caution and reduce speed due to the poor condition of the road.
Efforts to reach relevant authorities for comment were unsuccessful by press time. Investigations are expected to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
