(YEI RIVER COUNTY)-Boda boda operators in Yei have raised concern over an increase in motorcycle theft, warning that the trend is threatening their livelihoods.
The chairman of the Yei Boda Boda Association, Emmanuel Duku, told Access Radio on Tuesday that organized gangs are behind a surge in theft incidents across the town. He cited a recent case in the Jeruzeon area where a motorcycle was stolen after being left unattended.
Duku urged riders to take precautionary measures, including locking their motorcycles at all times, avoiding leaving them unattended in public places, and ensuring their bikes are fitted with secure locks. He also advised riders to be cautious when attending public gatherings such as football matches.
He further called on security guards, especially in schools, to remain vigilant and help monitor parked motorcycles to deter theft.
Authorities and riders are reportedly following up on recent cases, as motorcycle theft continues to pose a recurring challenge in the area.
