State Government Circular
(JUBA) – The Government of Central Equatoria State has issued an administrative order prohibiting the illegal renaming of historical and geographical sites across the state.
In a circular dated April 8, 2026, and signed by Deputy Governor Paulino Lukudu Obe, authorities expressed concern over what they described as the distortion of history through the unauthorized renaming of villages, rivers, forests, mountains, streets, and other landmarks.
The directive, addressed to government institutions, NGOs, private companies, civil society, the public, and the media, calls for the immediate cessation of such practices and the discontinuation of altered names in official use and documentation.
The government warned that legal action will be taken against individuals or entities found assigning new names to historically recognized locations without authorization.
Officials emphasized that compliance will be closely monitored, noting the state’s commitment to preserving its historical identity.
