(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – A local rights group, Agency for Disability Inclusion (ADI) says rights of people living with visual impairment in Yei River County are being neglected.
The chairperson of the group Asiki Moses Justine says the situation has made it difficult for members to access basic social services.
Speaking to Access Radio on Tuesday, Moses said that despite ongoing efforts to promote inclusion, there have been no tangible results.
He noted that more than 120 people living with visual impairment in Yei town continue to face serious challenges in their daily lives.
These include limited access to education, healthcare, mobility, and public facilities.
“We are facing many challenges. In education, there are no teachers to support learners with visual impairment. Most of us do not have walking devices like white canes. In hospitals, there are no trained medical workers to understand our needs. Even accessing buildings like schools, hospitals, and public offices is very difficult.”
Moses is now calling on the government and development partners to provide support and empowerment programs for people living with visual impairment in the county.
He says improving accessibility and services will help restore dignity and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities in Yei.
