Yei Commissioner Pays Tribute to Late County Health Director

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County, Hon. Emmanuel Taban Seme, has conveyed his condolences following the death of Mr. Michael Lugala Nicholas, the County Director for the Yei Health Department.

Mr. Lugala passed away late on Monday, 25 August 2025, at 11:20 p.m. in Arua, Uganda, where he had been receiving medical treatment. His death has been described as a major loss for the health sector and the community of Yei River County.

In his condolence message, Commissioner Taban extended sympathies to the family, colleagues and residents of Yei River County. He said Mr. Lugala would be remembered for his leadership and contributions to improving healthcare services and infrastructure across the county.

“Late Michael Lugala leaves behind a legacy of improved services and stronger infrastructure for our county health department, a testament to his strategic vision,” Taban noted in a press release

He added that the late director was instrumental in fostering positive change and advancing the wellbeing of the local population.

Taban further prayed for comfort for the bereaved family and described the late Lugala as a dedicated public servant whose impact will be felt for years to come.

Community members and county officials are expected to gather for prayers and commemorations in Yei and Arua in the coming days. The health department has said it will honour the late director by continuing his efforts to strengthen health services in the county.
