(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The chairperson of the Yei River County Youth Association has urged young people to reject tribalism and embrace unity as a foundation for peace and development in South Sudan.
Speaking during the Access Youth Show on Wednesday, Gaga Frank Justine emphasised that unity among young people can create a peaceful environment and open economic opportunities in the county:
“We call on the young people to come together to work for peace and development of this country. Young people make up 75 percent of the population, so let us unite, embrace one another, and be custodians of peace and unity in South Sudan.”
He also called on young people to avoid harmful practices that limit their participation in development initiatives, such as joining gangs.
“Let us deter from harmful practices like gang groups. We also call on development partners and the government to join hands with young people to identify the challenges that push some into gang groups. Together, we can find solutions through vocational and capacity building programmes,” Frank added.
The youth leader stressed that promoting unity among young people can enhance socio economic opportunities and strengthen development programmes across South Sudan:
“If we are not united, we cannot move this country forward. Let us come together as South Sudanese, avoid gang conflicts, and work towards the progress of our nation.”
