(JUBA COUNTY) – The Female Journalists’ Network of South Sudan has called on media houses across the country to build more inclusive and gender balanced newsrooms that give women journalists equal space and support.
Speaking at a joint press conference with the National Editors Forum, the Network’s Secretary General, Stella Loki, said that when women journalists are free to work without restrictions, the public receives reporting that is more balanced and reflective of the experiences of all South Sudanese communities.
She explained that inclusivity is not just about increasing the number of women in newsrooms, but also about creating working environments where women can contribute fully and safely, without fear or limitation.
At the same event, the National Editors Forum announced that it has adopted a new gender policy. The policy aims to ensure that media organisations protect female journalists, promote their safety and strengthen the presence of women’s voices in programming and editorial decisions.
The two organisations said they hope media houses will take practical steps to apply the policy so that newsrooms become more supportive and representative of the wider population.
