(JUBA) – South Sudan’s Minister of Health, Hon. Sarah Cleto Rial, visited the national medicines warehouse in Juba on Thursday to oversee the start of a distribution campaign of essential medical supplies to five states and administrative areas.
The field visit carried out with Undersecretary Dr Aninn Ngot Ngot Mou marked the formal beginning of dispatch operations aimed at reinforcing healthcare delivery across vulnerable regions.
The Ministry of Health, in partnership with UNICEF South Sudan and other health stakeholders, will distribute the supplies to twenty seven counties located in Upper Nile, Unity and Jonglei States, as well as Ruweng and Greater Pibor Administrative Areas. The intervention is designed to improve access to critical medicines during the July to September quarter of 2025.
In Upper Nile State, thirteen counties will benefit from the shipment. Unity State will receive supplies across seven counties. Ruweng and Greater Pibor Administrative Areas will each see deliveries to two counties, while nine counties in Jonglei State have also been selected.
During the visit, Minister Rial highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring that the medical supplies reach the intended destinations without delay. She particularly noted the importance of timely delivery to facilities such as Doma Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) and the Ulang County Health Department.
“We want to ensure that these medical supplies reach the people on the ground. As we can see, these are going to the Upper Nile State. So we want to ensure it gets there to Doma PHCC and the Ulang County Health Department,” she said.
The supplies include essential medicines and health equipment required to support local healthcare services through the rainy season, which typically restricts access to remote areas due to poor road conditions and flooding. The pre-rainy season timing of the delivery is crucial to avoid logistical challenges that often delay or prevent medical outreach.

The Minister also expressed appreciation for the continued support of UNICEF South Sudan and other development partners in strengthening the country’s healthcare system. Despite persistent resource constraints, particularly in conflict affected areas, the Ministry continues to work with its partners to maintain the delivery of essential services.
