(JUBA COUNTY) – Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, has urged stronger cooperation between government institutions, citizens and the Church to address key challenges affecting the State and to build lasting peace and unity.
Speaking on Sunday during a pastoral visit to St. Joseph’s Parish in Juba, Governor Mujung said the State continues to face serious problems such as land grabbing, a rise in suicide cases, and the presence of holdout groups that remain outside the peace process.
He stressed that such challenges can only be effectively addressed through joint efforts between security agencies and local communities.
“The government is doing its best to ensure peace and security are restored. With peace and security, it becomes easier to bring about rapid development in the State,” Governor Mujung said.
He called on the people of Central Equatoria to remain united, saying the harmony in the State is a reflection of the wider unity of all South Sudanese. The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s full support for local peace initiatives that promote reconciliation, forgiveness, and open dialogue with groups that are still outside the peace process.
Governor Mujung also commended the Church for its long-standing contribution to South Sudan’s liberation struggle and ongoing peacebuilding efforts. He appealed to religious leaders to continue playing a key role in guiding communities away from hatred and division.
His Lordship Santo Laku Pio, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba who led the service, reminded leaders to serve with humility.
“Leaders can only succeed in their calling if they understand that they are servants of the Lord,” he said.
Juba City Mayor, H.W. Christopher Sarafino Wani, who attended the service, shared a message of unity and responsibility. He called on residents to support the city’s cleanliness campaign, saying, “Peace, love, and unity is the message I want to share. Only through unity and cooperation can we move our city forward. Stand with us as we strive to keep Juba clean.”
The Sunday service was attended by several senior national officials, including Chief Justice Dr. Benjamin Baak Deng, Minister of Health Sarah Cleto, and Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Onyoti Adigo.
Governor Mujung was accompanied by senior State officials, among them Minister of Cabinet Affairs Lupai Satimon, Minister of Peace Building Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado, Minister of Housing, Lands and Public Utilities David Morbe, Commissioner of Juba County Emmanuel Tete Ezbon, and Mayor Christopher Sarafino Wani.
