(JUBA COUNTY) – Governor Rabi Mujung Emmanuel of Central Equatoria State has appealed to citizens and the church to play an active role in promoting peace, security and unity across the state.
Speaking on Sunday at St. James Bari Parish in Juba, the Governor described peace, security and unity as the foundation of a stable society. He compared them to three cooking stones, saying that each must stand firm to hold the pot.
Mujung was joined at the service by senior state officials, including the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Lupai Satimon, the Minister of Peace Building, Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado and the Commissioner of Juba County, Emmanuel Tete Ezbon. The State First Lady, Awate Justine, was also in attendance.
He urged citizens to support security efforts by reporting individuals involved in murder, community violence or illegal land deals. He noted that forged land documents in government offices were undermining stability and trust in public institutions.
“The obligation of security is the responsibility of all,” Governor Mujung said. “Without peace, the State cannot benefit from its resources.”
The Governor also appealed to the church to use its influence in persuading armed groups that have not joined the peace process to embrace reconciliation and dialogue. He emphasised that the role of faith leaders was critical in bridging divisions and fostering social harmony.
Mujung further expressed concern over continuing border encroachment in Kajo-Keji County by individuals from neighbouring Uganda. He said cross-border disputes remain a source of insecurity and require joint community and government action to resolve.
“Making peace requires a collective approach. Together, we can achieve it,” he said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to unity.
He concluded by stressing that only through collective action can the people of Central Equatoria overcome insecurity and build a peaceful and prosperous future.
