(JUBA) – Governor Mujung Emmanuel of Central Equatoria State on Saturday joined hundreds of South Sudanese citizens and senior government leaders at a thanksgiving celebration for Hon. Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit, the new Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programmes. The event was held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Juba.
The ceremony was attended by Vice President Josephine Joseph Lagu, who also serves as Chair of the Service Cluster, in her capacity as Guest of Honour. In her remarks, Josephine called on South Sudanese leaders and citizens alike to prioritise peace as a national goal.
“If you want to prioritise something let peace be one of them. If we put our hands together we can build this country to be the envy of the world.”
Hon. Adut, who was recently appointed as Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programmes, said her work will focus on peace and empowering women and youth. She highlighted the role of women in strengthening families and communities, describing them as the foundation of the nation.
Mujung congratulated Hon. Adut on the confidence placed in her by President Salva Kiir Mayardit, noting that her appointment demonstrates that women are central to peace building and nation building.
“Her appointment is a testimony that women are not just beneficiaries of peace but also key architects in shaping a prosperous and stable South Sudan. Hon. Adut carries the hope of women, the pride of the youth and the confidence of a nation.”
The Governor emphasised that peace can only be achieved through collective commitment and inclusivity, particularly with the active participation of women and young people:
“As Governor of Central Equatoria State, I reaffirm our State’s alignment with the national vision of peace, unity, and security. This effort echoes the broader agenda that Hon. Adut has been entrusted to champion at the national level.”
He further urged South Sudanese to use the occasion not only to celebrate Hon. Adut’s appointment but also to renew a collective pledge of national unity:
“While celebrating her appointment today, let us also renew our collective pledge: to support one another, to bridge divides, and to contribute our energies toward the peace and progress of our beloved country.”
The thanksgiving was attended by several prominent figures, including Vice President Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of States Mary Ayen and Lakes State Governor Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor.
