Yirol East Crowned Champions of Lakes Peace Tournament 2025
(JUBA) – Governor Rin Tueny Mabor of Lakes State on Sunday attended the closing ceremony of the Lakes State Peace Tournament, which brought together teams from all eight counties of the state. The final match was played in Juba between Rumbek Centre County and Yirol East County, with Yirol East winning three goals to one.
The tournament began on 19 July and concluded on 14 September and was organised to promote peace, unity and togetherness among the people of Lakes State. It also served to recognise the service of Governor Rin Tueny Mabor, who has led the state for the past four years.
In his remarks, the Governor said that peace in Lakes State contributes directly to peace in South Sudan as a whole. He described Lakes as the “nucleus and heart of the nation,” adding that its stability helps to strengthen the wider country.
Rin expressed his gratitude to the organisers of the tournament, led by Trump Makuach Anyuat Pap, whose committee worked through many challenges to deliver the competition successfully. He commended their commitment, saying the tournament was a clear sign that sports can bring people together and promote reconciliation.
The victory by Yirol East was celebrated by fans and players alike, with the team crowned as champions of the Lakes State Peace Tournament for the 2025–2026 season.
