
Yei River County Police Chief Yoasa Lujang Kamba-File Photo Access Radio
(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The newly deployed Inspector of Police for Yei River County, Major General Yoasa Lujang Kamba, has called on residents to work closely with law enforcement agencies to help curb crime and improve security across the county.
Speaking to Access Radio on Wednesday afternoon, General Lujang reaffirmed the police service’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting civilians and safeguarding property. He stressed that tackling crime requires the collective efforts of both security agencies and the public.
His remarks come just days after residents of Yei Town welcomed his appointment, expressing hope that his leadership would strengthen civilian protection, improve police-community relations and ensure greater respect for human rights.
The South Sudan National Police Service recently deployed General Lujang to lead policing operations in Yei River County. Since his arrival, community members have voiced expectations for enhanced public safety, a stronger police presence and more effective responses to criminal activities.
General Lujang said his office has already developed strategic action plans aimed at improving security and protecting civilians.
“This work requires people working together. Although I have only been in office for the last three days, we have already started implementing plans for action,” he said.
He urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement by sharing information that could help identify and apprehend criminals.
“We want the public to cooperate with us so that we can track down criminals. Just yesterday, criminals burned down the house of a police officer who who is now under medication at Yei civil hospital. Public cooperation is essential if we are to improve security and reduce crime in the area,” he added.
The police chief acknowledged concerns raised by community members and noted that addressing security challenges is a shared responsibility among the police, local authorities and the public.
Major General Yoasa Lujang Kamba previously served as Police Commissioner of the former Yei River State and is expected to bring extensive experience to his new role as he seeks to enhance peace and security in the county.
