(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Police authorities in Yei River County say crime has reduced since the beginning of
January this year, despite the difficult economic situation facing residents.
Yei River County Police Inspector Major General Ali Abdallah Tiff said the police have recorded only a few minor crimes committed by some young youth from January to the second week of February 2026.
Ali said security has improved due to cooperation between the police and the local
community.
“I can tell you that the crime rates recorded from January the month of February were very low, and I want to call on parents to send their children to school so that they learn to minimize the rate of crimes committed by underage children in the town”However, he warned that youth involvement in wrong groups remains a major concern. Ali called on parents to closely guide their children and urged young people to return to school. According to him, education is key to fighting poverty and preventing crime across local communities in Yei and South Sudan at large. Sudan. Commenting on gender related crimes, Navincent Kujo a gender-based police officer reiterated the same sentiment as the county police chief. She said his office recorded about ten minor GBV cases since the beginning of this year. Police and community leaders say continued support for youth programs, education, and family responsibility are important factors to maintain peace and security in Yei River County.
