South Sudan Backs Regional Trade Roadmap to Boost Economic Integration

(ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA) – South Sudan has joined other countries in the Horn of Africa in endorsing a regional Trade Facilitation Roadmap aimed at strengthening economic integration, improving trade corridors and accelerating regional development.

The endorsement came during a high-level meeting in Addis Ababa held under the theme, “One Region, One Shared Economic Space: From Political Commitment to Regional Action.”

Representing South Sudan, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Dr. Labanya Margaret Mathya, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to regional integration and enhanced cross-border trade cooperation.

Dr. Labanya emphasised the importance of mobilising resources to develop trade corridors and critical infrastructure that can facilitate the movement of goods and services across the region.

The regional roadmap seeks to remove trade barriers, improve connectivity among member states, and foster a more integrated economic environment across the Horn of Africa.

Regional leaders say the initiative will help unlock economic opportunities, increase trade flows, and support sustainable development by translating political commitments into practical actions.

South Sudan’s participation underscores its efforts to strengthen economic ties with neighbouring countries and promote regional cooperation as a pathway to growth and prosperity.
