EES Governor Lobong Calls for Urgent Aid as Climate Change Ravages Crops in Greater Kapoeta

(KAPOETA, EASTERN EQUATORIA STATE) – Governor Luis Lobong Lojore has called for urgent humanitarian intervention after witnessing the devastating impact of climate change on farming communities across Greater Kapoeta.

The Governor, accompanied by the Mayor of Kapoeta Municipal Council, county commissioners, state ministers and other government officials, visited several gardens across the region to assess the extent of the damage caused by extreme weather conditions.

During the visit, officials observed widespread destruction of crops, raising growing concerns over food security and water shortages in Greater Kapoeta and other parts of Eastern Equatoria State.

Governor Lobong described the situation as alarming and appealed to humanitarian agencies, development partners and the National Government to provide immediate assistance to affected communities.

He said urgent support is needed in the form of food aid, access to clean water, agricultural inputs, seeds and other essential relief services to help vulnerable families recover from the effects of climate change.

The Governor also called on stakeholders to strengthen collaboration with the state government in addressing the growing humanitarian needs facing communities across Eastern Equatoria.

Local authorities warn that without swift intervention, the destruction of crops could worsen food insecurity and undermine the livelihoods of thousands of households that depend on farming for survival.

The appeal comes as communities across the state continue to face increasing climate-related challenges, including erratic rainfall patterns and prolonged dry spells that have significantly affected agricultural production.
