Juba Committee Confirms Army Salaries Fully Paid

(JUBA) – The Finance Ministry has completed salary payments for the army and is now paying the police and other organised forces, with civil servants expected to receive their pay within the week.

The update came as the economic reform committee met security chiefs to address illegal checkpoints and the large number of troops deployed along major roads.

The Ministerial High-Level Committee on Economic Reform held its regular meeting on 2nd September 2026 at the Ministry of Finance and Planning. The session was chaired by General Pieng Deng Kuol.

The Committee invited heads of the security sector, including the Chief of Defence Force, General Santino Deng Wol, the Inspector General of Police, General Said Chawoul Lom, and the Director General of National Security, Internal Security Bureau, General Akech Tong Aleu.

The Committee briefed the security chiefs about its assessment mission to Nimule in July and subsequent visits to Jebel Ladu and Yei Road in August.

In his statement to the media after the meeting, the Rapporteur of the Committee, James Mawich, said the meeting briefed the heads of the security sector about security arrangements and the general situation of organised forces operating along the Nimule highway and major roads connecting Juba to peripheral towns across the country.

The Committee called for joint cooperation with the security sector to remove all illegal checkpoints on the roads. It also called for a reduction in the large number of deployed forces.

The Committee urged the heads of organised forces to support its work in implementing its mandate based on the Presidential Order and the Cabinet Resolution to ensure timely payment of salaries and stabilise the economy.

The Rapporteur said the Committee has completed payment of salaries to the army and is continuing with the Police and other organised forces. He said preparations are underway to commence payment for civil servants’ salaries within the week.
