(YEI RIVER COUNTY, CENTRAL EQUATORIA STATE) – Authorities in Yei River County on Saturday handed over 53 recovered cattle to their rightful owners following a recent raid in the Greater Yei area.
County officials said the animals were recovered after a security operation conducted in coordination with the Central Equatoria State Security Team. The cattle had reportedly been taken during a raid by suspected Mundari cattle herders earlier this week.
The recovery followed the deployment of a security team acting on directives from Central Equatoria State Governor, H.E. Emmanuel Adil Anthony. The operation forms part of efforts to implement a Presidential Order requiring the return of cattle to their areas of origin and to reduce tensions between farming and herding communities.
The operation was led by the State Advisor for Peace and Security, Hon Angelo Daya. After the recovery, the cattle were formally handed over to their owners from the Goja community during a ceremony attended by county and state officials.
Representing the Commissioner of Yei River County at the event, Executive Director Hillary John Konga said the county leadership remains committed to maintaining peace, protecting community property and addressing local security challenges.
County authorities urged residents to respect the law, cooperate with security agencies and support peace initiatives aimed at strengthening stability across Yei River County.
Local officials say cattle related disputes remain a concern in parts of Central Equatoria State, with state and county authorities continuing to work on measures to prevent further incidents and promote peaceful coexistence among communities.
