(LAINYA COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Lainya County, Robert Lasu John Morris, has provided an update on the construction of the Mukaya Police Station, confirming that the project has reached its final stages.
The development supported by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan is expected to play a key role in improving security and law enforcement services in the county.
According to the commissioner, most of the construction work has been completed and the focus is now on finishing tasks. He said the progress reflects strong cooperation between county authorities and UNMISS in addressing security needs at the local level.
The Mukaya Police Station is intended to strengthen law and order in Lainya County by providing a permanent base for police operations. Local authorities say the facility will help improve response to crime and enhance public confidence in security institutions.
Commissioner Morris thanked UNMISS for its continued support to the project, noting the importance of partnerships in building peace and stability.
“The Mukaya Police Station will serve as a foundation for community safety and security in our county,” he said. “We are encouraged by the progress made and we believe the station will have a positive impact on the daily lives of our people.”
Beyond policing operations, county officials say the station is also expected to support community engagement. It will provide a space for dialogue, conflict resolution and cooperation between residents and law enforcement officers, which is seen as important in maintaining calm and trust in the area.
A statement from the County Press said the project forms part of wider efforts in Lainya County to strengthen local governance and ensure that security services are accessible to communities. It added that improving infrastructure for police and other institutions remains a priority as the county works to maintain stability and support development:
Once completed, the Mukaya Police Station is expected to increase the capacity of local police to carry out their duties effectively. Community leaders have welcomed the development, expressing hope that it will contribute to safer neighbourhoods and stronger cooperation between citizens and security forces.
