(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The chairperson of the Yei River County Youth Association, Frank Gaga, has urged young people to place agriculture at the centre of their efforts to build stable and productive lives.
His appeal follows the launch of the association’s strategic plan for the years 2025 to 2027, which identifies agriculture as a main priority.
Speaking to Access Radio, Gaga said investment in farming and education can help address some of the major challenges affecting communities, including poverty and low literacy levels.
He warned young people against being drawn into political manipulation or joining criminal groups, saying such activities do not improve their future:
“We should engage in agriculture rather than being used by politicians and joining gang groups in the town which cannot help us.”
Gaga said education remains a vital part of personal growth for young people. He noted that it strengthens problem solving skills, opens economic opportunities and builds understanding among communities. He called on young people to avoid criminal activity and instead use education as a path toward career development:
“Investing in education is like putting money in the bank rather than joining groups of young people who engage in crime and robbery in the community,” he said.
The Yei River County Youth Association believes that continued youth involvement in agriculture can help reduce crime among young people by offering practical, productive alternatives.
