(JUBA) -The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has issued a new gubernatorial decree introducing changes within the state’s local government structures and establishing a committee to regulate artisanal mining activities on Tuesday.
The decree, issued under Article 99(2)(a) of the Transitional Constitution (2012, as amended), restructures parts of the county-level government within the Revitalized Transitional Government framework.
The order included the formation of a state committee tasked with assessing and regulating artisanal mining operations across various sites. The committee will be chaired by the State Minister of Trade and Industry and deputized by the minister of cooperatives and rural development, commissioner general of state mining authority as secretary and chairperson of Juba special economic zone and representative from the state revenue authority as members.
Other Members are drawn from multiple institutions including security agencies and local government bodies.
The committee’s mandate includes evaluating current mining activities, developing regulatory strategies, enforcing compliance, and submitting a report to the state government within 30 days. It will also provide weekly progress updates.
Additionally, the governor appointed new County Security Coordinators for Kajo-Keji County and Juba County to strengthen local security oversight. The new security coordinators include; Santino Golian Lo-Duku for, Kajo-keji County and Simon Muzee Noel for Juba County.
Governor Adil expressed appreciation to outgoing officials for their service and extended best wishes to the newly appointed leaders. The decree takes immediate effect upon signing.
