(KIGALI) – South Sudan is among the countries taking part in the 2025 International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Annual Meeting, which officially began in Kigali, Rwanda, on 6 October 2025.
The event hosted by the Rwanda Standards Board brings together global leaders, innovators, and policy experts to discuss how international standards can promote a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient world.
The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) is represented by its Executive Director, Hon. Gloria Nyoka Joseph, who is leading the country’s delegation under the meeting’s theme, “United for Impact.”
The gathering provides a platform for national and international standards bodies to exchange experiences and align their policies to promote trust, safety, and quality in products and services.
Throughout the week, participants will hold discussions on key areas such as sustainable trade, digital transformation, responsible artificial intelligence, youth leadership in agriculture, clean energy, and biodiversity as a business priority.
These sessions aim to support countries like South Sudan in strengthening quality assurance systems and building resilient economies that can compete globally.
The ISO Annual Meeting serves as a major event for advancing international cooperation on standards that affect daily life, from trade and technology to the environment.
For South Sudan, participation in this global forum marks another step towards integrating its developing economy into the international standards framework, which is essential for enhancing export competitiveness and consumer protection.
Hon. Gloria Nyoka Joseph expressed South Sudan’s commitment to adopting global best practices through the ISO framework, saying that improving standards in agriculture, construction, energy and manufacturing will contribute to the country’s economic transformation and environmental sustainability.
The meeting is expected to conclude with a declaration of renewed commitments from member countries to strengthen cooperation, harmonise national standards and build systems that promote transparency and trust in export markets.
