(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Twenty five boda riders in Yei have completed a financial management training aimed at helping them save money and invest in small businesses instead of spending everything they earn each day.
The group was selected from different stages across the town. The training was organised by Talent Initiative for Development, a local organisation that received funding from Spend Direct, an aid group based in Switzerland.
According to Samuel Emmanuel Sebit, the head of Talent Initiative for Development, the goal is to help young riders build a habit of saving and planning.
He said riders were introduced to basic financial ideas such as how to track expenses, join savings groups and open small side businesses.
The organisation said similar support has been given to rider groups in Juba, where some have formed savings unions. It hopes the same will happen in Yei.

Many youth in South Sudan rely on boda riding as their only source of income. Supporters of the training hope that if such groups learn to save and invest, they can become employers instead of job seekers.
