Yei Youth Seek Solutions for Gardens Initiative

(YEI RIVER COUNTY, CES) – The Yei River County Youth Association has launched a two-day stakeholders’ dialogue aimed at finding practical solutions to challenges facing the Youth Gardens initiative.

The dialogue, which opened on Monday, 26 October, brought together 40 participants, including youth and women representatives, persons with disabilities, former youth leaders and local government officials.

The initiative is supported by the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative, WPDI.

Speaking at the opening, Youth Association Chairperson Gaga Frank Justin called for free, transparent and open discussions, saying dialogue remains an important peaceful way of addressing challenges.

“The youth in Yei have chosen peace over violence. We believe in dialogue as a nonviolent approach to addressing our challenges and finding lasting solutions,” Frank said.

Bishop Emeritus, the Right Reverend Hillary Luate Adeba, commended the youth for organising the dialogue and encouraged participants to engage peacefully and constructively.

Yei River County Director for Culture, Youth and Sports Clement Benard also welcomed the initiative and pledged his support for the process.

The dialogue is expected to develop recommendations to strengthen the Youth Gardens initiative, with emphasis on youth participation, economic empowerment, ownership and accessibility.

The discussions conclude on Tuesday, 27 October, with stakeholders expected to present key resolutions on the way forward.
