(YEI RIVER COUNTY, CES) – Health authorities and partners in Yei River County have conducted an Ebola preparedness simulation exercise in Yei Town to test the readiness of health workers to respond to a possible outbreak.
The one-day exercise, conducted on Thursday, runs from Bakhita Health Centre to Yei Civil Hospital and focuses on Ebola case management and prevention.
Authorities emphasized that no Ebola case has been reported in South Sudan, and the exercise is purely a preparedness drill.
Yei River County Health Director Simon Sebit Musoga told Access Radio that health authorities and partners have been preparing health workers to effectively manage any suspected Ebola case.
“We have been preparing on Ebola management, and we came together as health partners including ministry of health partners came here for trainings to understand how prepared we are on Ebola case management because we told them that we are 95 percent prepared on Ebola prevention in Yei and this exercise starts from Bhakhito to Yei civil hospital”
Musoga urged residents not to panic when they see health workers conducting activities that resemble an actual Ebola response, saying the exercise is intended to assess their level of preparedness.
“I have told journalists and media houses in Yei not to fear because this test is meant to examine us the health workers because we are doing it exactly how Ebola case is to be managed and people should not fear and I have told the media houses including Radio Easter, Spirit FM and Access Radio to pass this message so that people should know and they should not panic”
The simulation exercise was witnessed by officials from the National Ministry of Health, World Health Organization, UNICEF and local health partners operating in Yei River County.
