(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County, Hon. Emmanuel Taban Seme, left Yei on Wednesday for Juba to attend the signing of a European Union funded project aimed at supporting recovery and reintegration in parts of South Sudan.
The project, titled Catalyzing Durable Solutions in Yei River County and Beyond, is implemented by the International Organization for Migration and funded by the Directorate-General for International Partnerships of the European Union.
According to the Office of the Commissioner, activities will begin on Thursday 19 February 2026, with the official signing ceremony set for Friday 20 February 2026 at the IOM office in Juba.
The ceremony is expected to bring together County Commissioners from Rubkona County and Yei River County, the EU Ambassador to South Sudan, and the IOM Chief of Mission, along with other partners.
Officials say the initiative is intended to support stabilisation, early recovery and sustainable reintegration in Yei River County. The focus is on addressing displacement related challenges and strengthening the resilience of affected communities, a key concern in several parts of Central Equatoria and neighbouring states.
Yei River County has in recent years faced displacement linked to insecurity and economic hardship. Local authorities say the new programme is expected to improve coordination between county authorities, humanitarian partners and development actors working to help returnees and host communities rebuild livelihoods.
Hon. Taban Seme was seen off at Yei Airstrip by the County Executive Director, Mr Hillary John Konga, and other county officials.
