(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County, Emmanuel Taban Seme, has met with an official from the International Organization for Migration to discuss ways to strengthen protection and development programmes in the Central Equatoria State county.
The meeting was held on Thursday in Yei River County, during a courtesy visit by Dastan Salehi, a Protection Officer with IOM.
Discussions focused on the county’s main priorities under its strategic plan, with particular attention on projects aimed at improving safety, welfare, and social services for local communities.
The Commissioner said his administration remains committed to protecting residents and ensuring a stable environment for development. He noted that security and public trust are essential for long term social and economic progress in South Sudan.
He highlighted major challenges facing the county, including the absence of reformatory centres for children who are at risk of crime or already involved in illegal activities. He stressed the need to establish rehabilitation facilities and child friendly spaces to guide vulnerable children and support their reintegration into society.
The Commissioner said such facilities would help reduce juvenile crime and provide young people with education, counselling, and life skills.
Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in improving protection systems and delivering practical development projects that respond to community needs.
The IOM official reaffirmed the organisation’s willingness to work with local authorities to support vulnerable groups, especially children and displaced families, in line with national and international standards.
The Office of the Commissioner said it will continue to work closely with humanitarian and development partners to ensure that protection, stability, and growth progress together in Yei River County and across South Sudan.
