Tore Payam Farmers Raise Concerns Over Pastoralist Cattle Damage
OPEN LETTER TO H.E. EMMANUEL ADIL ANTHONY
The Governor of Central Equatoria State
Subject: Concerns Regarding Ambororo Pastoralist Cattle in Farming Areas of Tore Payam
Your Excellency,
I am writing to share the sadness and grievances of the people of Tore Payam. The continued presence of Ambororo pastoralists remains a serious threat to our farming community.
Their cattle frequently enter our farmlands and destroy beehives, cash crops and food crops that are vital for our community’s survival and economic growth.
This destruction has led to poor crop yields and reduced harvests. Recently, for example, cattle destroyed a large portion of cash crops on a farm in Tore Payam. This problem is becoming increasingly common.
Your Excellency, the presence of Ambororo pastoralists has made it difficult for indigenous farmers to continue farming freely. Many of the pastoralists are armed, which creates fear and insecurity. Overgrazing has also damaged the land, causing soil erosion that negatively affects crop quality and productivity.
Tore Payam is rich in natural resources such as fertile land, honey, forests, underground minerals and water bodies. These resources support economic and social activities that promote sustainability. However, the area is not suitable for uncontrolled grazing.
To address this problem, we respectfully propose the following measures:
+ Strengthen the enforcement of the presidential order directing all cattle herders to return to their areas of origin.
+ As a community, we call on the Ambororo pastoralists to leave Tore land peacefully, without causing violence or further destruction.
We believe that implementing these measures will greatly improve the situation and protect the livelihoods of local farmers.
We pray that Almighty God grants you good health and wisdom as you lead the people of Central Equatoria State towards lasting peace, stability, reconciliation and economic development.
Thank you for your time and for considering this important matter.
Sincerely,
Christopher Taharir
Concerned youth from Tore Land
