(JUBA) – The Central Equatoria State Security Committee has confirmed its plan to enforce a 2017 Presidential Order directing cattle herders to leave the Equatoria Region and return to their areas of origin. The measure is aimed at restoring peace and reducing conflicts across the State.
The decision came during the Committee’s regular meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony. Officials reviewed the security situation and adopted resolutions to strengthen law and order in the State.
The Committee resolved that all herders operating illegally in Equatoria must return home immediately. It also agreed to regulate cattle ownership and movement among resident communities, including the Ambororo, to prevent disputes and ensure compliance with the law.
In addition, security forces were instructed to intensify operations against criminal gangs in Yei Town to protect civilians and their property.
County Commissioners, Payam authorities, and the Mayor of Juba were directed to continue reorganising local markets to improve services, access and commercial order.
The Committee also endorsed the creation of a joint committee between the Governors of Central Equatoria and Lakes States to address border conflicts between Terekeka and Awerial counties. The initiative aims to resolve disputes through dialogue and promote peaceful coexistence along the shared border.
In closing, officials highlighted ongoing efforts to address security and infrastructure challenges and called on the public to avoid negative propaganda and harmful practices that could undermine social cohesion.
The Central Equatoria State Government reaffirmed its commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure lasting peace, security and development across the State.
