(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Central Equatoria State Director General for Gender, Child and Social Welfare has commended Koneta Hub Initiative for its efforts in combating child malnutrition in Yei River County through a UNICEF-supported nutrition programme benefiting thousands of vulnerable children.
Speaking during a visit to the organization’s offices in Yei, Director General Nunu Diana Alison praised Koneta Hub for implementing community-based nutrition interventions that include the production and distribution of nutritious peanut butter and poultry farming projects aimed at improving children’s access to healthy food.
Alison said the programme has reached more than 4,000 malnourished children across Yei River County, describing it as a vital initiative that not only improves child health but also contributes to the protection and wellbeing of vulnerable children.
She urged parents and caregivers to reject gender-based violence and all forms of child abuse, warning that family conflict and violence can negatively impact children’s growth and development.
The Director General noted that child malnutrition remains a major challenge in South Sudan and requires joint efforts from government institutions, communities and humanitarian organisations. She also called on development partners to continue supporting community-driven programmes that provide sustainable solutions to nutrition challenges.
Koneta Hub’s executive Director Deneya Denis, welcomed the state delegation, saying the visit demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting local initiatives that are improving the lives of vulnerable children and families.
He said the organization is expanding peanut butter production and poultry farming to provide protein-rich foods for children at risk of malnutrition. He encouraged parents to actively participate in nutrition programmes to improve their children’s health.
The Executive Director added that Koneta Hub continues to work closely with government institutions in promoting innovation, nutrition, gender equality and social inclusion to improve community livelihoods.
Meanwhile, Azania Amude, the Acting Director of Gender, Child and Social Welfare in Yei River County, thanked the state ministry for visiting community organizations supporting vulnerable children.
Amude said the visit allowed officials to assess the impact of local initiatives responding to child malnutrition during a period when many families continue to face humanitarian and economic challenges.
