Illegal Checkpoints on Juba Yei Road to Be Removed

(JUBA) – Unauthorised checkpoints and illegal fee collections along the Juba to Yei road are to be removed following a field visit by the Ministerial High Level Committee on Economic Reforms.

The committee travelled along the road to assess progress on a presidential directive aimed at improving living conditions for citizens. It called on individuals collecting unauthorised fees from drivers and business operators to stop immediately.

The visit focused on protecting taxpayers and businesses, allowing the free movement of goods and people, and strengthening accountability in revenue collection.

The delegation included the Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Onyoti Adigo Nyikwac, the Deputy Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority, Solomon Ariik Manyok, the Director General of the National Bureau of Statistics, Augustino Ting Mayai, and security officials.

The committee demanded the removal of all illegal checkpoints along the Juba to Yei corridor to allow free movement between Juba, Yei, and other parts of the country.

Minister Onyoti Adigo Nyikwac said the visit followed reports of people collecting unauthorised fees from drivers along the road. He said the Ministry of Finance and Planning and the South Sudan Revenue Authority have welcomed the committee’s work, especially after reported improvements in revenue collection.

He said higher revenue collection is important to strengthen the ability of the government to meet its financial obligations, including paying salaries for civil servants and organised forces on time.
