(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed senior Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) leaders to strengthen peace, security and community engagement ahead of South Sudan’s general elections scheduled for December this year.
Speaking during a meeting with SPLM chairpersons from the states and administrative areas on Friday, President Kiir urged party leaders to work closely with communities to promote peace, unity and stability across the country.
The President emphasized that a peaceful and secure environment is essential for credible elections and called on leaders to ensure citizens can participate in the electoral process freely and safely.
President Kiir also instructed governors and chief administrators to explore sustainable ways of increasing state revenue to improve service delivery and meet operational needs.
He further encouraged party officials to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, promote peaceful coexistence and support ongoing efforts to improve governance and security ahead of the polls.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peaceful and credible elections, President Kiir said South Sudan’s democratic progress depends on stability and the ability of every eligible citizen to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
The December elections are expected to be a major milestone in South Sudan’s democratic journey as preparations continue across government institutions to ensure a secure, peaceful, and transparent electoral process.
