Governor Adil Calls on Youth to Lead Peace Efforts Ahead of 2026 Elections

(JUBA) -As South Sudan prepares for the December 2026 general elections, Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony is calling on young people to take center stage in promoting peace, unity and responsible civic participation across the country.

Governor Adil made the appeal during a meeting in Juba with youth representatives from South Sudan’s ten states and three administrative areas, led by Central Equatoria State Youth Union Chairperson Aggrey Duku Arkangelos.

During the meeting, the youth leaders congratulated Governor Adil on his appointment and pledged their support to his administration. They also committed to mobilising communities at the grassroots level to participate peacefully and responsibly in the upcoming elections.

The delegation praised the governor’s efforts to empower young people through appointments to key decision-making positions. They also highlighted challenges facing youth and called for increased investment in vocational training centres and higher education institutions to equip young people with practical skills.

Governor Adil urged youth leaders to spearhead civic education campaigns and help tackle illiteracy by ensuring citizens understand the electoral process. He also warned against tribalism and encouraged young people to become agents of positive change rather than being manipulated into activities that could threaten peace and stability.

The governor further stressed the importance of peace outreach programmes in cattle camps to help reduce violence and strengthen coexistence among communities.

The meeting concluded with a joint commitment between youth leaders and the state government to work together in promoting peace, national unity, and active civic engagement ahead of the country’s general elections.
