Governor Adil Calls for Unity and Peace During Meeting with Yei Chiefs

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State, H.E. Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has called on traditional leaders in Yei River County to strengthen efforts towards peace, unity, and reconciliation as the country prepares for the upcoming elections.

Governor Adil made the remarks during a community consultative meeting with chiefs from Yei River County, led by Paramount Chief Joseph Brown Lo Mose, during his visit to Yei on Wednesday.

The chiefs congratulated Governor Adil on his reappointment and welcomed him on his first official visit to Yei since assuming office in November last year. They expressed their appreciation for his leadership, describing him as a son of the region, and pledged their continued support and blessings.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Adil urged the traditional leaders to work closely with government institutions and security forces to restore lasting peace and stability in the area. He encouraged the chiefs to serve as ambassadors of peace by engaging members of the community who remain associated with armed holdout groups and persuading them to abandon violence in favour of peaceful coexistence.

The Governor further called on the chiefs to use their influence to promote unity among the people of Yei River County, particularly among political leaders. He emphasised the vital role of traditional authorities in fostering dialogue, reconciliation, and harmony within communities.

Governor Adil noted that peace and unity are essential for development and urged residents to work together to build a secure and prosperous future for the county and the state.

The meeting was part of a series of engagements during the Governor’s visit to Yei aimed at listening to community concerns and advancing efforts to promote peace, security, unity, and development across Central Equatoria State.
