Community Rallies Behind Kanjoro Bridge as Governor Adil Pledges Support

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Residents of Lomuku One, Kanjoro and New Site have welcomed Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony to the Kanjoro Bridge construction site, using the occasion to appeal for continued government support to complete the long-awaited community project.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Johnson Poru Hilary, Chairperson of the bridge construction committee, said the bridge has remained a major challenge for residents for more than seven years, affecting transport, trade, access to education and healthcare services.

Hilary noted that the area serves a population of more than 15,000 people and revealed that community members have raised approximately 15 million South Sudanese Pounds towards the project. He appealed for further government assistance, saying completion of the bridge would improve access to services and create new opportunities for local residents.

Resident and community leader Hillary Adeba commended Yei River County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo and local authorities for supporting community development initiatives. He welcomed financial contributions amounting to 17 million South Sudanese Pounds and called for stronger collaboration between communities and government to accelerate development.

The Managing Director of Point Investment Company, Engineer Stephen Lemi James William, praised the state and county leadership for involving the private sector in local development efforts. He stressed that meaningful development requires cooperation between government, communities and businesses, and pledged continued support for the bridge project.

Commissioner Malimbo described the Kanjoro Bridge as a priority project because of its importance to security, mobility and access to essential services. He encouraged communities to take ownership of development initiatives while government provides the necessary support.

Governor Adil lauded residents for their commitment and initiative, describing the project as a model of community-driven development. He emphasised the importance of partnerships between citizens, government and the private sector, and assured residents that the government would continue exploring ways to support development projects that improve livelihoods and strengthen local communities.

Once completed, the Kanjoro Bridge is expected to enhance connectivity, boost economic activities and improve access to services for thousands of residents in Yei River County.
