(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Construction of the long awaited Kanjoro Bridge in Yei River County is expected to begin soon after key building materials arrived at the project site.
Six truckloads of river sand, six trips of aggregates, and several loads of hardcore stones have already been delivered, according to county authorities. Officials said an additional eight truckloads of construction materials are still expected before work officially begins.
Point Investment Engineering Company donated more than 100 bags of cement to support the start of the bridge construction.
The Commissioner of Yei River County, Hon. Samuel Henry Malimbo, visited the construction site to assess the progress of preparations and inspect the available materials. He was accompanied by the State Revenue Director for Yei, Chandiga and Access Radio Station Manager Johnson Poru Hillary.
Malimbo welcomed the progress made so far and expressed optimism that construction works would begin once the remaining materials arrive.
Kanjoro Bridge has for years remained one of the most challenging crossing points in Yei River County, particularly during the rainy season. Flooding raises water levels and makes movement difficult for residents.
The poor condition of the bridge has especially affected children, elderly people, and other vulnerable members of the community who rely on the route for access to essential services and markets.
Johnson Poru said that if some of the materials arrive in time, work on the bridge construction will begin.
Residents have expressed hope that the construction of the bridge will improve transportation, enhance connectivity and reduce risks associated with crossing the area during periods of heavy rainfall.
