(ROKON) – The Catholic Church of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Rokon has marked 25 years since its establishment, celebrating its feast day with church leaders, government officials and local community members in Terekeka County in Central Equatoria State.
Auxiliary Bishop of Juba, Santo Loku Pio, addressed government priorities during the occasion. He stressed that providing citizens with basic services such as healthcare, schools, and water should take precedence over other issues.
He expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Terekeka County for apprehending the criminal Jelle lo Lobuyu and requested that he not be released.
The bishop encouraged leaders to speak the truth always and everywhere, without fear of removal from office:
“If you are removed, we, the church, will welcome you,” he assured.
The Minister of Cabinet Affairs of Central Equatoria State spoke of the importance of cooperation between the government and the church in fostering development. He also noted the government’s readiness to provide services to the people.
The Commissioner of Juba County expressed his appreciation to the church for 25 years of faith in Rokon. He also pointed to the need to keep cattle away from farmlands to allow cultivators space to farm.
The Commissioner of Terekeka County shared his joy in joining the celebration of faith, contrasting it with his usual visits to Rokon, which often involve conflict resolution.
The commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to peace in Rokon and confirmed the arrest of Jelle lo Lobuyu, who had been tormenting and harassing the people of Rokon.
He acknowledged the community’s cries and prayers, declaring, “Jelle lo Lobuyu will not return to Rokon. If you feared him, eliminate that fear now and forever.”
He added that he is still on a mission to return looted cattle from Muru to their owners and from Muru to the Mundari community.
