(TEREKEKA COUNTY, CENTRAL EQUATORIA) – A government delegation has arrived in Dollo Payam to recover stolen cattle and halt the cycle of communal clashes between the Muru and Mundari communities.
The high level team is led by the Co-Chair Security Advisor of Central Equatoria State and the Commissioner of Terekeka County.
Their mission is to oversee the handover of livestock allegedly looted by armed pastoralists. The animals belong to the Muru community of Western Equatoria State and the Mundari community of Central Equatoria State.
The operation follows the Rokon Peace Consensus and puts into practice peace building frameworks agreed by both Central and Western Equatoria States. It also answers direct presidential directives on cattle related conflicts.
Officials on the ground are working to counter tensions made worse by rumours and false information. The delegation condemned narratives designed to incite violence and breed distrust.
The Co-Chair Security Advisor called on community leaders and young people to cooperate in bringing temperatures down and speeding up the return of stolen livestock.
The Commissioner of Terekeka County delivered a blunt message:
“The looting and violence must end. We are here to uphold the rule of law and return every cow to its rightful owner so our communities can live in harmony.”
The delegation told the public to ignore unverified reports and warned against spreading rumours. Authorities urged both Muru and Mundari communities to stay calm and work with law enforcement.
The State Government restated its zero tolerance policy towards criminal acts, warning that anyone found guilty of looting will face prosecution.
