Residents Welcome Yei’s Monthly Clean-Up Drive

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Residents of Yei Town have welcomed the launch of a monthly clean-up campaign initiated by the county government to improve sanitation in residential areas and public spaces.

Speaking to Access Radio, local resident Mathedio Malish Banja praised Yei River County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo for demonstrating leadership and called on all residents to actively participate in the exercise.

“I am happy with the Commissioner for his good leadership. Yei has been dirty, and this initiative will help improve the image of Yei, our ‘Small London’. This campaign is not for the Commissioner alone; it is for all of us, the people of Yei,” he said.

Another resident, Paskalina Yangiba, also commended the county leadership for taking practical steps to improve cleanliness across the town and residential areas.

“I am happy that the cleaning has started. We would like to see this exercise extended to all residential areas because there are many communicable diseases. My message to the people is that we should keep our homes clean so that we can live in a healthy environment,” she said.

A resident identified only as Tony from Hai Biir echoed similar sentiments, saying the campaign would help tackle malaria and improve public health.

“This is a good directive because people have already started cleaning the town. It will remind residents to keep Yei and the surrounding neighbourhoods clean. It will also improve movement and contribute to better health in our homes. I thank the Commissioner for issuing this order,” he said.

The clean-up campaign also attracted support from local musicians, including Alexo Hussle and Franko Lokunyumi, who joined youth volunteers in cleaning the former county headquarters on Friday morning.

In a Facebook post, Franko praised the participation of local artists in the initiative.

“The two artistes love Yei Small London and joined young people in keeping the town clean. This is a positive example from the faces representing Yei’s music industry,” he wrote.

The monthly clean-up exercise is part of ongoing efforts by the county government to promote environmental hygiene, improve public health and restore the cleanliness of Yei Town.
