Yei Youth Hailed for Leading Community Clean-Up and Development Drive

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Chairperson of the Yei Civil Society Forum, Modi Arkangelo, has commended young people and football players in Yei Town for taking the lead in voluntary community clean-up campaigns and local development initiatives.

His remarks follow a community service initiative launched by Atlabara Football Club, where club members dedicate their Saturdays to cleaning streets and public spaces across Yei Town. The campaign has drawn attention for promoting civic responsibility and encouraging residents to take an active role in improving their environment.

Speaking to Access Radio on Monday morning, Arkangelo described the initiative as a powerful example of how citizens can contribute to development and service delivery through voluntary action.

“This is a citizen responsibility towards providing free voluntary service to the people, and we thank them for this initiative,” he said. “I urge the youth in the town to join hands rather than waiting for the government to take the lead.”

He encouraged young people to support efforts aimed at addressing community challenges, including poor road conditions and environmental sanitation.

“Let us as youth in the area take this example because when we clean our areas, it benefits all of us in the community and on the roads,” Arkangelo added.

The civil society leader stressed that sustainable local development can only be achieved through collective responsibility, calling on residents to work together in creating a cleaner, healthier and more vibrant town.

The voluntary campaign by Atlabara Football Club has been welcomed by community members as a positive step towards fostering civic engagement, environmental cleanliness and community ownership of local development efforts.
