Residents Welcomes Progress on Kanjoro-New Site Bridge Project

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Residents of Lomuku One and New Site residential areas have welcomed the steady progress of the Kanjoro-New Site Bridge construction project, describing it as a major step towards improving movement, trade and access to essential services.

The bridge, currently under construction by Point Investment Company, is a community-driven initiative spearheaded by residents of Kanjoro and New Site in Jansuk Boma, with support from the Yei River County Local Government.

Retired Bishop Hilary Luate Adeba, a resident of Lomuku One, praised the project and highlighted the importance of community self-help initiatives in addressing local development challenges.

According to Adeba, the bridge will serve as a vital link between Lomuku One, New Site and surrounding communities, easing access to markets, schools, health facilities and other services. He commended Yei River County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo for supporting the project and encouraging community-led development.

“The bridge is a lifeline for mothers, schoolchildren, business people, and patients seeking medical care. It will also improve access for security and economic activities in the area,” Adeba said.

Community members have contributed cash, labour, food supplies and prayers to support the project, demonstrating a strong sense of ownership and commitment to its success.

Another resident, Johnson Poru Hillary, reported significant progress after six days of work, noting that the south-west abutment wall and wing structures are nearly complete while construction on the north-east side continues steadily.

He also recognised contributions from well-wishers and local businesses, including donations of construction materials from community supporters and Ajepo Company Limited.

“On the same note, we want to thank people like Uncle Moses for donating 10 pieces of Y16 bars and Ajepo Company Limited for donating 2 trips of hardcore. This is big support—God bless you. We also recognize the swift support from the local government” he added.

Meanwhile, Beatrice Amani, a resident of New Site, expressed optimism that the completed bridge will improve transportation along a road that has long been affected by poor infrastructure.

“I am very happy because I have good engineers working on the bridge, I saw them constructing the bridge and this will apparently improve movement along this bad road because of its spoiled bridge structure” she added.

She urged engineers and county authorities to ensure the project is completed on time and to the standards expected by the community.

Residents say the bridge will not only improve connectivity but also boost economic activities and strengthen social ties between communities in and around Yei.
